Free The Pirate Bay, Wear Yellow for Sharing | TorrentFreak

In a few months from now the trial of The Pirate Bay four will start. The “Free The Pirate Bay” group on Facebook has proclaimed Friday February 8th to be “wear yellow for sharing day”, so everyone can show their support for the Pirate Bay team, and filesharing in general.

At the moment of writing, over 300 people have confirmed they will join the event. The “Free The Pirate Bay” group, with Peter Sunde (aka Brokep) as officer, is hosting the “wear yellow for sharing” event that will take place tomorrow.

At this point it is not even clear whether the Pirate Bay has to be freed. The Pirate Bay case is likely to be delayed until after the summer due to its complexity, according to Anita Thimberg from the Stockholm district court. “It can take weeks for the parties to simply go through all the documents included in the summons,” she told The Local.

P2P Privacy: Try Peer Guardian for Anonymity, Now.

If you use bittorrents, eDonkey, WinMX, Gnutella, Limewire, or any other P2P network, then you are likely being scanned by investigators. In an effort to trap and prosecute people for abusing copyrighted movies and music, investigators often pose as P2P downloaders. While they themselves share and download copyrighted files, these “posers” also scan and log your IP (internet protocol) address. Your computer IP address then becomes ammunition for civil lawsuits, where you may be sued for copyright infringement.

These investigator “posers” are everywhere. Their efforts will sometimes result in wholesale lawsuits, where hundreds of downloaders are charged thousands of dollars in copyright fines. Investigating posers comprise up to 3% of all P2P downloaders you may be sharing files with.

Slyck News – Myths and Facts of OiNK’s Takedown

                       oinkoinkoink

The dismantling of OiNK generated an enormous amount of coverage for the file-sharing community. The private BitTorrent website was one of the largest private websites online with over 180,000 members. Currently, the IFPI (International Federation of the Phonographic Industry) has claimed responsibility for the take down of the website and the administrator was arrested at his flat (as the BBC report clearly showed). While there is no shortage of information that is currently going around, it seems that incorrect information has been introduced into the mix. Slyck has taken the time to separate the myths from the facts in the hopes to provide some clarity into the event that gripped the private BitTorrent file-sharing community.

We begin our journey with actual correct information. On October 23, 2007, OiNK, a private BitTorrent website was taken down by British and Dutch police in a raid. The Dutch police confiscated the servers, while the British took the administrator into custody. The IFPI did issue a press release applauding the move.
